The COVID-19 Emergency Response Act 2020 (Queensland) was passed in April 2020 and originally set the COVID-19 legislation expriy day as 30 April 2021. However, in March 2020 the Queensland government introduced the COVID-19 Emergency Response and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2021. Once passed into law, this will extend the COVID-19 legislation expiry day to 30 September 2021. While it has yet to pass the Legislative Assembly, it is expected to do so before the end of April.
For the creation of legal documents this is important as it marks the expiry date of the Justice Legislation (COVID-19 Emergency Response—Documents and Oaths) Regulation 2020. By extending the date this removes the uncertainty that could arise given that temporary lockdowns and business interruptions are still an enduring risk across the State (as the recent lockdown just before Easter has shown.
